Lookee at what I won in English class!
Just for knowing how old Methuselah lived to be.
I love my English class. I just wanted to say that.

What a Wonderful Day! and an About Me

My siblings (pictured above is Alex and Baylee) had to go to school, and I had today off! I am so happy!
My mum and I went to Red Lobster without them!

It may not look it, but it got to 40 degrees today! It was "warm" enough to go without a coat!

So I did.

Oh, goodness, how I've missed the sun...

Watch me jump into the snow without any regard to health or safety!
True, the snow still comes up to the middle of my shin, but I could go coatless.

So, my sister has friends over, since she's gone weeks without contact outside of her family. I totally understand. And all these girls (who are also all sisters) are the most mature and funny young girls I've met in a long while. I don't know how they do it. And that's really something for me to say that, because I really cannot stand children.

My papa took my youngest brother (not pictured here) to a basketball game so he could see all his friends. I, on the other hand, have seen everyone on account of being at school while no one else was...

Whoa! Hold it right there! You guys know nothing about me! (And when I say "guys," I am speaking hypothetically, since no one reads this.) So I'm gonna throw some random facts at you:

1. I have three pets. They are all turtles. Two painted turtles, named Eris and Hermes, and a little box turtle named Kameko. I love them, even when they snap at my fingers.

2. I am left-handed, and con-flabbed proud of it. My little sister is, too, and no one in my family knows where that came from. Yes! We are the only ones!

3. My dad is a preacher. It's led to a rather interesting child- and teenage-hood.

4. My mum is a physician's assistant. When she retires, she wants to chase tornadoes.

5. I don't eat mammals. Not for any profound reason or to make a statement. It just grosses me out.

6. I desparately hate where I live. I lived in Huntington, WV for the first six years of my life. It's not a big city, but it's a city nonetheless. And now I'm in the country and it's terrible. I'd move if I wasn't going to college for free.

7. I honestly think that Disney World is the most magical place on Earth, and I love it very much.

8. I used to dress all Goth and emo, but then I rediscovered colours. But more and more black and grey is slipping into my wardrobe.

9. I wish I was more interesting. Or pretty.

10. I am jealous of people with small families.

There! That's enough! Now you have a (kinda) glimpse at my very uneven psyche!
Goodbye for now.

A question for you:
What did you do today?

Despite the Copious Amounts of Evil Snow... is a rather good day! I managed to pull off the only A in my English class on the midterm! Granted, it's a very low A, but the prof's tests are super-difficult (10 short-answer questions and 4 essays in 2 hrs), so I am very happy. I got two 20s on the essays! I've never even gotten one 20 before! And there was much rejoicing!!! ... some girl just handed me an ice cream sundae. I like today.
So, here's some art:
I don't know who this girl is (my friend gave me this pic to do
for someone in her sociology class), but she made for a pretty fun project.
Charcoaled this in one of my 2 hour shifts in the gallery.
Quick sketch at Bob Evans!
This is the profile of my 9-year-old sister,
drawn on the back of those paper menu things they give you.
She has a lot of hair.

Aaaannnd here's me.
I just wanted to show off my most
favourite shirt in the world.
I got it at the Animal Kingdom in Disney World,
in the gift shop of the terrifying dinosaur ride.

So, that's today. My weekend starts in about an hour and
fifteen minutes, after my gallery shift is over.
G'bye for now!

A question for you:
What's your favourite shirt? Why?

Just Another College Day

Instead of being a good student, I knit.
Here's a Harry Potter scarf I made for the Ravenclaw house.
I make these for y library to sell, since libraries
are getting all these super-ridiculous budget cuts.
I like helping.
And then I wanted to make a fashion-y hat for me
(why pay for one when you can make it?)
But it turned out a little too "Colonial Williamsburgh."
Oh, well. As long as it's warm.
Now, off to college!
(My college is one of the very few open today. Why???)

Some 3rd floor balcony shots.
Look at all that snow!

Okay, now it's time to go inside!

This is where I work. The Ohio University Eastern branch
has a lovely gallery that hosts all kinds of shows.
This month is quilts by the dean's wife.
I get a show next. Well, a third-of-a show.

I do love this place very much because it one of the very few
quiet places in the college.

These were taken from my desk.
Really, my only duties are to try to get people to come inside,
and if they do, make sure they sign the guestbook.
This leads to lots of free time.
So I do homework. Or go online.

Happy Valentine's Day!

... or Single's Awareness Day, if you're me. Or Happy Chinese New Year! Year of the Tiger, I do believe. We celebrate everything in my house!

So... we've had so much snow, it's not funny. I understand that everyone has, but my three younger siblings had no school last week while I had college. Other than that, though, I've been stuck inside. I've worn out my project ideas. I've made Valentine's Day cards. I've actually studied. I've rearranged my room.

I've learned a new trade, which will be documented here:

While cleaning out my closet, I found two pair of really old, rather destroyed jeans. The knees were completely blown out and this pair had paint down the front. So, I cut the legs off so I'd have more shorts in the summer. (I miss summer!) And I have BOXES of embroidery floss lying around, so I figured I would try needlepoint. ( I hand-sew everything, anyway.) And I like ships and octopi. No references, I just kinda went for it. That's how I do my charcoals and everything else. Planning takes too long. This only took a few hours total. But I still need to hem the backs of the legs.

All in all, this was a productive, albeit cabin fever-ish weekend. And I start back in the art gallery tomorrow. I'll be getting paid again!

A question for you:
What should I put on the other pair of shorts I made?

Another question for you:
What did you do today, to celebrate Valentine's Day or Chinese New Year?

Why, Hello There.

Welcome to my first blog ever! This is pretty exciting, no?
Well, my name is Kate, and I live in the middle of snow-covered nowhere.
I spend my time making art.
Or doing homework, but I enjoy the art part more.
I love to charcoal:

But I am also learning to paint with nail polish,
a very difficult and time-consuming task, if I do say so myself!

"Girl With a Nail Polish Earring." Boy, am I clever.
So, as of now, I don't know what this will turn into.
I'll try my best to be clever, and not too boring!
Nice meeting you!

A question to motivate you all:
My favourite classic painting is, obviously,
"Girl With a Pearl Earring" by Jan Vermeer. What's yours?
